Music streaming service Spotify has rolled out a series of updates for its Android app, including a faster, sleeker user interface and greater social integration.
The news comes two months after Spotify first announced the redesign of the revamped Android app was as a preview app. It officially hit the Google Play store on Tuesday and is available for free download.
The new app features slide-out navigation, the ability to check out friends' profile pages and playlists on the go and a significant upgrade in sound quality. It also comes with full support of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Spotify Android app also includes artist imagery in high resolution and a related artist view tool.
“For all our Android users, this Spotify update is a huge leap forward,' said Gustav Södertröm, VP Products at Spotify, in a statement. 'We’ve rebuilt it from top to bottom, making it faster, slicker and much better looking.”
Spotify recently announced plans to keep the service free in the U.S. indefinitely. The company initially granted U.S. consumers access to the platform with no restrictions for six months. For those who didn’t sign up for a premium package — ranging from $4.99 to $9.99 a month — the site would be limited to 10 free hours of streaming music each month. It’s unknown how long the streaming service will remain free in the U.S.
